Present Kuching's Regional Express Bus Terminal.

Kuching's regional express bus terminal is located along Jl. Datuk Tawi Sli, also dubbed as "3 and a half miles", located south of the city, just before the Boulevard shopping mall. All long-distance express buses arrive from and leave for major Sarawak cities like Sibu, Bintulu and Miri, as well as Kalimatan Barat, Indonesia.
Regional buses for some towns near Kuching such as Lundu (for the Gunung Gading National Park and Tanjung Datu National Park) and Sri Aman also arrive/depart from here.

Public Transport-Kuching City.

Kuching is considered a non-active city at night, therefore public transportion after 7 pm may be limited to certain locations within Kuching or outside. Taxis are available 24 hours but also limited to those who used to travel at night and have a place to book for oncall taxi or rent a car at reasonable rate. Since all tourist spots in Kuching area is located quite far from one to another, therefore rent a car for convenience, you'll be able to visit more places. Unlike Kuala Lumpur City, Kuching serves without Train, no LRT, no commuter except for Bus/Water taxis (Sampan).

If  bus is your mode of transport in Kuching City ..first you need to study the bus route and make sure you know where you are going.

P1290230 P1290231

To be honest to visitors...While in Kuching City don't expect nice,cosy,air-condition bus station ..

P1290229 P1290235

My experience..If you want to go to Semenggok Wildlife Centre to meet Ritchie and family the Urang Utan.Go early in the morning take bus number K6.Don't take on noon e.g 13:30pm bus from Kuching because you might miss the return bus you go at noon returning is difficult .Go at 07:00am and are just in time to see Ritchie and friends 'The Urang Utan' feeding time that is at 09:00 am everyday.Spend few hours there and return by bus at noon is easier, but not after 04:00pm it might be difficult.

** Ritchie is the oldest urang utan at the wildlife centre in Semenggok.

www.fireflyz.com.my

I have been travelling not a lot but quite a few time for the past 2 years and have had a chance to see, feel and appreciate or dislike the airline that I travel with.So far,I can say that I'm quite fond of low cost carrier 'Air Asia' and her tag line 'Now everyone can fly'.To be honest I'm always travel with zero fare offer by this carrier and enjoy the smooth flight of Airbus 320 .The wonderful thing about this budget airline is that the arrival/departure terminal is in LCCT(Low Cost Carrier Terminal) and I can take a bus ride to KL Central just for Rm8.00 for one way. This is very good for backpacker like me who carry only my camera & laptop backpack which is less then 10 kg.

To travel overseas maybe many budget Malaysian still prefer AirAsia X.

Malaysia budget carrier- Healthy Competition.

Today with prices rising, the airlines will not raise prices and instead try to run other companies into the ground by lowering prices. Is this a healthy competition?

AirAsia Bhd was cut to "underperform" from "outperform" at RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd to reflect a potential price war after Malaysian Airline System Bhd announced plans to expand its Firefly budget carrier unit.

AirAsia's indicative fair value was cut to RM2.10 from RM3.01, RHB said in a report today. -- Bloomberg

We know you can't wait to visit AirAsia website to book yours! But hold on - we want to remind you that there are also plenty of low fares to ALL AirAsia destinations, which won't be more than RM 99*!

Try AIR ASIA OFFER

I like Firefly because when you pay one fare price and you will be allowed 20kgs of checked in baggage, 7kgs of hand carry luggage, you may choose your desired seat no, and be served soft drinks and snack on board without any additional charges.

For AirAsia each passenger is permitted to check in bags with a maximum weight of 15 kg. A baggage fee is charged for the carriage of checked baggage, which will be charged at a discounted rate if purchased at time of booking or up to 24 hours prior to the scheduled time of departure or at a full rate at the airport check-in counters. Passengers have to pay RM 20 when checked online and RM 30 when checked at the airport.

I wish every one a happy holiday .

New Sarawak river taxi .

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

New Sarawak river taxi to operate by early next year & the bigger and more comfortable boat, equipped with better safety features.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The new-look river taxi was to add a new tourism product in the state (Kuching,Sarawak) and to provide an alternative mode of public transportation in the city to ease traffic congestion. This 28 feet long and 8 feet wide and can accommodate 10 passengers  but the traditional river taxis or locally known as "perahu tambang" are usually made of wood and can accommodate six to eight passengers. They are still retained and operate the existing routes.

Strictly Malaysian-Balik Kampung.

P7267414

Loosely translated, "balik kampung" means to go back to one's hometown. However, it is most applicable when used to describe the annual pilgrimage of city folk to their respective hometowns during festive seasons.

It's not uncommon to find cities like Kuala Lumpur turning into ghost towns during Hari Raya Puasa and Chinese New Year due to this yearly exodus. This feeling of desolation in cities is magnified when festivals fall close together, such as Kongsi Raya (Hari Raya Puasa and Chinese New Year) although this happens only occasionally.

LRT @ Rush Hour........

P7287558

Taking LRT at rush hour is no fun at all. You are being squeezed like sardines, male and female alike, in a coach which smells of stale air. It is in fact downright unhygienic since if someone with flu sneezes in the coach, most of the passengers in that coach would probably be infected with the same virus. It is also very scary especially to the ladies, since even if you feel someone else is groping you, you can’t even move to avoid and fence off the move.

Public Bus- Penang.

P7277482

On my recent trip to Pulau Penang the public bus as my mode of transportation.I was using the Rapid Penang from Sg.Nibong bus terminal to Batu Ferringhi, bus No 102 and it is inexpensive. The bus itself was very convenient, you can go anywhere using public bus & it is also enable you to see the true color of Penang with it's culture diversity. The cheerful, helpful bus drivers were marvellous. The most important is the 'frequency' schedule was great for us on holiday.

Street Shot-City&SubUrban Transportation.

Buses is the main mode of public transportation in the city of Kuching, whereby kereta sewa(hired van-picture above) will cover suburban areas and cover as far corners of the city which have no buses services.I would say its convenient and also does not follow a set schedule like the city buses do,nor does it need a bus stop to get you on or off.You can hall.stop, and get on or off it everywhere you want along its route.Kereta sewa have yellow colour coded on the roof top of the van.
Kuching definetly needs a more modern, comfortable, and well regulated mode of public transportation.

City of People-Balik Kampung .

Does self drive to kampung please see the above massage.

The express boat terminal @ Kuching.Express boat is one of the popular transportation in Sarawak.
Kuching bus terminal and perhap this coming week end will be crowded.

In Malaysia, those who celebrate Hari Raya living in towns usually go back to their home town or kampung to celebrate Aidil Fitri. This migration from big urban cities to rural areas is known as "Balik Kampung".In Kuching Sarawak this balik kampung phenomenon is not as busy as that happen in Semananjung Malaysia as mood of transport have many choices like Sea,Air and most common is by road.
Balik Kampung it is always the joys when celebrating the Hari Raya together with parents and siblings.

Kuala Lumpur-Public Transportation.

As the capital of Malaysia, the City of Kuala Lumpur has one of the most modern transportation system in this region. You can take light rail transit train,KTM komuter trains,Rapid KL buses and taxi.
Many Malaysian have started making greater use of pubic transport and they found it to be convenient, smooth and realiable.I even experience it myself very convenient indeed.Good for budget travellers like me.
Or just walk around by following the direction of the sign post.
Beside the taxi buses also plying the city in the suburbs and vice, verse.

Bicycle & Petrol.

This small machine need fuel to run.Almost all perahu tambang(river taxi) in Kuching now use engine.Meaning for faster services to passengers. If other mean of transportation now going to increase the fare due to fuel price hike ..What about us ????the big question by parahu tambang operator.
May be Kuchingites prefer this for transportation...No worry about fuel hike.
or this.
Remind to bicycle rider ..use proper lane don't break the law.
Where to go now......ok to save my car fuel......I better walk.
Walking need no petrol..and also by walking keep me fit.
No more subsidy for this boat that use diesel.
Jimat cermat....now I don't hire taxi to transport my good..look here I think this is the best way and I hope the VVIP or YB's follow my example because I have change my lifestyle.
This two man in the picture may not understand what is going on or what the government's intentions are with all the economic jargons.Their priority at he end of the day is whether they can provide well for their family.
Perahu tambang operator said the hike was drastic and he was at his wit's end thinking about his next course of action...we cannot increase our fare without approval..Anyway increasing the fare is a final option. So from 30 cents to 40 cents ..ok.

Our Kuching Tourist Police now use bicycle for petrol ....but just for petrol at waterfront.
I'm going to modified this machine here ...& prepare for the worst-case scenario.
I kinda like this machine here ..3 in 1 bicycle.
The 60 years old Raleigh as mention by the owner.

So now the story of bicycle in Sarawak.
Very impressive!!!!! this for Pak Zawi of Life As I see It.
Posting about bicycle in his home town to read more kindly visit http://mohdzawi.blogspot.com
He ask me to write about bicycle in Sarawak.By all mean but very simple one .
Cycling is a good sport and way to keep fit.Another mean of transport too, with recend increase of petrol bicycle is the alternative mood of transport(for short distance of course).
The 60's bicycle were every where and almost every one rode a bicycle in Sarawak. They broke the every traffic law in the town.
There were good Raleigh bicycle. Those day for those who rode Raleigh bicycle is just like this day who rode Harley Davidson Motobike.
Most bicycle on sale now is from China.Tha Imam rode them, the Catholic priest rode them, teachers, nurse, policeman, the hawkers, housewive rode them and when the school session ended, there were thousand of them on the road.
