My World Tuesday: Day-City.

mwtblack

More World HERE

I recently study that GO & SEE Kuching City life is as early as morning from 07:00AM.Kuching City is a day city.Night life is just so boring(not telling about night-club,disco and pub) the shops around main bazaars and India street mall will close around 06:00PM.

Since Kuching City rapidly developing into a tourist destination one can find of hotels in Kuching at a very reasonable rate.

For the backpackers maybe this is one of the best accommodation with reasonable rate.

P9141953 P9141965

mwtblack

P6290129 022

This week I thought I would take you on a short walking tour on the street of our Malaysia capital city,KUALA LUMPUR.I found that walking from one place to another place or to subway is not very pedestrian friendly but it was interesting watching the crowd of small groups here and there and some families too.

P6290173 P6290175

P6290177 P6290178 P6290178

Another attraction if you walk in the street of Kuala Lumpur is the presence of graffiti on some walls. There are quite a lot of graffiti in the street of Kuala Lumpur and here are few that I saw (picture above).Maybe it reflect the current social issues in Malaysia.

P6270087 P6300199

What strike the eye is that Kuala Lumpur the street themselve are fairly clean, but many sidewalk and building are damaged and you can see some beautiful colonial building too.

P6260059 P6290166

After few hours of stroll around the street, why not join this guy here for lunch at mamak old restaurant and try Malaysian icon nasi lemak, nasi kandar and teh tarik.

P8091425

I was in Sibu Town last Sunday.I went to the express boat jetty.I hate the traffic around this area because it not easy to find a spot to park our car. While waiting to get a parking space I thought I can just walk over for a quick look at RV ORIENT PANDAW the first Rajang River Cruise which was scheduled to start its river cruise last month 1st of July.

It was rather an impressive cruise ship.I stood few meter away from the cruise and shot this picture.

My World Tuesday-Kuching State Mosque.

mwtblack

For a virtual tour just click HERE

P7271046

The Kuching Mosque is one of the city's most important landmarks, with its idyllic riverside location and its multiple gilded cupolas. Although a relatively modern building (1968), its design is faithful to traditional Islamic architecture. It is set in an ancient Muslim cemetery on the site of an old wooden mosque. The mosque and its grounds are open to non-Muslim visitors, but they are asked to dress respectfully and to not enter the mosque during prayer times. The Kuching Mosque previously functioned as the State Mosque but this role has now been taken over by the splendid new State Mosque across the river at Petra Jaya, which has an unusual modern single cupola design. Another interesting mosque can be found in Gambier Street. It is completely hidden away by rows of shophouses. This mosque originally served the Indian Muslim community in Kuching and is the oldest in the city.

My World Tuesday-Sarawak Regatta.

Sarawak Regatta is Kuching’s top boat-racing event, and has 15 different race categories. Traditional Chinese dragon boats, along with other colourful models, are paddled through the waters of the Sarawak River along Kuching Waterfront. The Sarawak Regatta is an annual event held at the Kuching Waterfront at the Sarawak River. This year Sarawak Regatta will be held from 31st July till 2nd August 2009.

Join the crowd for a weekend of watery boat races, sweaty paddlers and enthusiastic crowd which thronged the banks of Sarawak River in the wee hours of the morning to watch paddlers battling their strengths and skills amidst the shouts and cheers.

Watch out for the crowd’s favourite races and the ‘must watch events’, where the ‘Bidar’ boat races take centre stage. Adding to the variety and excitement are the ‘tambang’ boat races, jet-ski races, kayak races and the traditional water sports events. The highlight of these races will be the King of the River title for His Excellency’s the Governor’s Challenge Trophy. The tourist category of a 15 paddlers team and 20 paddlers International category are available to foreign tourists to compete in the race.

A wide array of side events such as tourism, handicrafts, science and technology exhibition trade fairs, cultural and food extravaganza, are an added attraction for this year Regatta. These will certainly bring in more crowd, more excitement, more thrills and spills to the Sarawak Regatta 2009. It will definitely be an event you will not want to miss.

Durian is coming to town. It's durian season in Malaysia.

SL-4

Street vendor selling durian.Every year Malaysians everywhere wait for the chance to smell.choose and buy durian from street vendor.

SL-3

Durian is the king of all fruits in Malaysia. This hot spell brings bumper harvest of durians of various varieties.

durian

If you are an addict to durian but are too afraid of the amount of carbohydrate and fat in the fruits, do check out this nutritional website and plan how much to consume in order not to burst your seams after a one night fling with this charming but notorious fella. It’s good to know that durian has zero cholesterol content but loaded with vitamin C and some amount of dietary fiber, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. At the very least, you could justify your craving with good nutritional value and great taste, albeit some weight gain.

durian_bisku

Durians are highly prized fruit in Malaysia, And for a good reason! Besides being nasty looking with their sharp thorny spikes they are also well known for their pungent smell that could suffocate you in an instant if you are within sniffing distance. That’s why they are banned from hotels, flights, subways and most tourist locations. It's time to display "NO DURIANS" signage in every hotel in Malaysia.

Gawai P3210173

gawai1

Gawai Dayak is a festival celebrate only in Sarawak on 1 and 2 June every year and it a public holiday for Sarawakians. It celebrates the end of the rice harvest and is traditionally a time for the community to come together after the hard work is over.

During the celebrtion Ngajat dance is perform to welcome the guests.

An excerpt from the Wikipedia: Gawai Day or Gawai Dayak is a festival celebrated in Sarawak on 1 June every year. It is both a religious and social occasion. The word Gawai means a ritual or festival whereas Dayak is a collective name for the native ethnic groups of Sarawak: Iban, Bidayuh, Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit, and Lun Bawang among others. Thus, Gawai Dayak literally means "Dayak Festival". Dayak would visit their friends and relatives on this day. Such visit is more commonly known as "ngabang" in the Iban language. Those too far away to visit would receive greeting cards. The mode of celebration varies from place to place. Preparation starts early. Tuak (rice wine) is brewed (at least one month before the celebration) and traditional delicacies like penganan (cakes from rice flour, sugar and coconut milk) are prepared. As the big day approaches, everyone will be busy with general cleaning and preparing food and cakes. Christian Dayaks normally attend a church mass service to thank God for the good harvest.

Sometime it's important to go out and shoot. The challenge is to spot the extraordinary within the ordinary.I referred its as "ART of SEEING".

There's no nice sunset or sunrise,no beautiful models to pose for you. It's just you and the City.
