Pais Ikan.

Yesterday stopping at Kampong Buntal  one of the fishing village in Kuching,Sarawak.I saw one street vendor selling pais ikan (small fish with sambal.

I also stopping by to get myself fresh coconut drink and bought   a few 'Jeruk Buah' and 'Local Biscuits'.
Kampong Buntal is about one hour drive from the City.

Why Street Photography.

I am reading an article by Taylor Davidson about street photography.Why Street Photography?You have a camera. You're here. It's what you see. It’s your life. It's what you want to remember. You should shoot it. Let’s do it better.Don’t worry about how good your camera is. “The best camera is the one you have with you.” A better camera doesn't take better pictures. Only worry about the camera if you're trying to sell images.

Sometime talking to your subject can get you a better shot than a candid.

 Shot from behind can be interesting too !!.

Be alert at all time, the decisive moment comes for a split second.

get as close as possible to your subject.

Never let your fear take over you.

Have your camera with you all the time.

Make sure you focus is at the right spot.

Sarawak Regatta 2012 .

Venue: Kuching Waterfront

End Date: 16 September 2012

Sarawak Regatta has been a premier event with a distinct historical and cultural significant. It was held as early as before 1872 and was organized as an annual event taking place during the New Year. Sarawak Gazette had recorded in 1872, that the annual Regatta that year was held, on 29th February 1872 at the Sarawak River infront of the Astana. The European community in Sarawak and in the neighboring countries were invited to the Astana - for breakfast - before the race. Keen competition were also recorded for the Rajah Cup. The boat 'Sri Matu' built and manned by the Melanaus, was reported as the winning boat.

The Gazette records provided the indication that Regatta had been an important social event organized annually for social integration and goodwill for the people of Sarawak. Prominent political figure, the late Tan Sri Datuk Amar Ong Kee Hui, recorded that Rajah Charles Brooke used to send his yacht Maimunah1 to outstation to bring in the various Tuan Residents to join in the social event.

The tradition of holding the annual Regatta in the Sarawak River continued through the Colonial period and into the post-Malaysia period. During these periods the Regatta was organized by Resident and District Office with funds from the Government while the rest of the fund was raised through public donations.

The day programme include races for traditional longboats, dragon boats and other activities, like the running of totolizers, climbing greasing poles, catching ducks and pillow fights. Racing boats from outstations made it a grand affair and also a great occasion for families from outside the State Capital to visit Kuching town.

International Buying Film Day-1 Ocober,2012.

Despite the present day predominance of Digital photography over film there remains a large, world-wide following of film users. For many reasons they still prefer images created by Silver Halide, and the shooting of film remains their photographic choice.

But because of the sharp decline in film sales it has become much more difficult to obtain certain types of film and the associated processing services required. Former household names have become casualties of the change to Digital, such as Polaroid who no longer produce their once famous instant film, and also Kodak's Kodachrome slide film. Once the byword for outstanding colour, Kodachrome will shorlty no longer be available. From next year it will not be possible to have this slide film processed, even if you had been able to obtain old stock.

But there remains a large, dedicated following of film users, and on 1 October this year we would ask everyone who enjoys or appreciates photographic film to buy as many rolls of their favourite film type as they can. We want to send a message to the photographic industry, the manufacturers and retailers, demonstrating that there remains a market segment still worth the investment.

My Canonet QL25.

Received a Canon Canonet QL 25 from junk camera shop,delighted to see such a old and solid vintage & I bought the camera cheap because the  battery compartment  damage.

Short introduction on the camera:

The Canonet QL range was introduced by Canon in March 1965, as a development of the Canonet. They are 35mm rangefinder cameras with shutter priority CdS-meter controlled auto exposure and manual override. Each is fitted with the Canon QL quick film loading system (picture below)

 Last week I decided to tried a few test on this 47 years old vintage rangefinder camera. loaded with Kodak film colorplus 200.

 Since this camera work without battery (due damage)I decided to work with full manual shooting and I apply 'The Sunny 16 Rule' The basic guide to photography exposure is very simple. If you have a bright, sunny day, then use f-stop 16 for your camera lens aperture. The shutter speed should then be set to the equivalent of your ISO film speed – or the next number over. For example, if you are using an ISO film speed of 100, your shutter speed should be set to 1/125. More than often, your shutter speed number will be higher than the ISO film speed, but it is simply easier to remember that film speed equals shutter speed.In my case I use ISO film 200 and my shutter speed should be set to 1/250.

I must admit, the editing part of it is what bums me out the most, sitting at my computer for hours at a time just doesn’t really do it for me. so for now I’ll leave you with a bit of Canonet love….and hopefully I’ll be able to get out and shoot some more stuff soon!.

Last Minute Photo-Outing.

Yesterday spent few hours of the day shooting .I shoot with my old camera olympus E620 mounted with zuiko pancake lens 25mm f.28.This was a last minute photo-outing I was alone because I can't get in touch with few friends or perhaps they are busy.Well. nothing special about my shot here just that I wanted to share with my blog viewer what i shoot .

Merdeka, Merdeka...Merdeka! Another celebration and ceremonials .

Merdeka !Merdeka !! Merdeka !!!.Tweeeeeeeet Merdeka !! 1 Malaysia, “Janji Ditepati” (promises fulfilled).They hear this on TV live last night...To kampong boy does Merdeka still mean anything to them. They just watch the celebration on TV and see the party, flag-waving gestures etc etc.
