My sister, brother and the family are all coming to Kuching for Adil Adha. They come from Sibu and what else of course they will not forget to bring the Sarawak exotic seasonal fruits which is very popular in Sibu The Sarawak Olive-DABAI.
Dabai has a unique taste, like Durian, you either love it or hate it.Dabai is cheaper in Sibu than in Kuching,e.g; Grade AAA in Sibu is Rm9.00 per kg while in Kuching is about Rm20.00 per Kg.
Sarawak version of the olive. They look a lot like olives, black and oblong.Dabai taste a lot like an olive too, creamy & oily.Like olives, you only get a bit of meat on each Dabai, the rest is large, smooth, three sided seed.
Dabai cannot be eaten raw & to cook them put the Dabai in a bowl with hot water for about 20 to 30 minutes.I prefer dabai as a side dish to a rice.Try it with salt or black sauce(Kicap) and
If you want to try Dabai ,December is the season.
