RAJANG RIVER: Malaysia's longest river more than 770km -has been a major traffic artery linking maritime trade with Sarawak's interior,and the remote highlands.Sailing boat used to ply this waterway as far as the township of Song,Kapit,after that,paddle power was needed to work against the river's boisterous currents.Sibu is a nodal point on the mighty Rajang river and below this town the river spreads out into the arms and branches of wide delta.

If you travel along Rajang river & Batang Igan you can see a lot of shipyard and ship building industries .Sibu is well known for its ship building and are specialist in building express boat,barge and tugboat.

THE RAJANG RIVER CRUISE:

The Rajang River cruise is scheduled to make its maiden voyage on 1 July 2009 along the country's longest river.

It will set sail from here and passing through Kanowit and Kapit towns, then along the Baleh River, which is a major tributary of the Rajang River and an integral part of the Iban community heartland.

It will then proceed to the Pelagus Rapids, Song, Sarikei and to the fishing port and industrial town of Tanjung Manis before returning to Sibu.

Very very interesting post. Rajang river is the longest river in Sarawak. What I did not know were as what you have posted in your blog. So many economic activities along the river especially in Sibu, Ship and boat making industry.
