My World Tuesday-Kuching State Mosque.

P7271046

The Kuching Mosque is one of the city's most important landmarks, with its idyllic riverside location and its multiple gilded cupolas. Although a relatively modern building (1968), its design is faithful to traditional Islamic architecture. It is set in an ancient Muslim cemetery on the site of an old wooden mosque. The mosque and its grounds are open to non-Muslim visitors, but they are asked to dress respectfully and to not enter the mosque during prayer times. The Kuching Mosque previously functioned as the State Mosque but this role has now been taken over by the splendid new State Mosque across the river at Petra Jaya, which has an unusual modern single cupola design. Another interesting mosque can be found in Gambier Street. It is completely hidden away by rows of shophouses. This mosque originally served the Indian Muslim community in Kuching and is the oldest in the city.

Join the fun and watch beautiful photos by other skywatcher by visiting this site

SKYWATCH-FRIDAY

P4290076

This new gigantic structure that is still in development and nearly complete is the State-of-art,Dewan Undangan Negeri(DUN) of Sarawak.

Oh my! oh my!!!..the building cost almost Rm300 millions or more.No one are allowed to enter at this moment and I was told that the wall interior are design by expert foreigners from Uzbekistan.Let me guess ....maybe it look alike the spaceship ?.They mentioned the building to be the highest in Sarawak and the most beautiful landmark of Kuching City.Sarawak politician will say the new building signifies the progress and development of Sarawak in Malaysia for 45 years. Most public might say it is a waste of money by spending millions just to have new & modernly equipped DUN building.I say will it be an icon of waste to my State? I really hopes that the Sarawakian tax payer and zakat payer monies will be used efficiently and transparent .

I reach Sibu Lanang Bridge at about 12:00 noon.

Who said Sibu doesn't have toll???I need to pay Rm3.00 one trip for small car to use this 1.22km Sibu Lanang Road Bridge.

PC310011

It was a tiring journey from Kuching to Sibu.I drive my compact 850cc car and the driving started at about 6:00 am .The weather was fine and cloudy giving me wonderful scenery of the country side and rural mountain area of Sarawak. From Kuching to Sibu is about 445 KM and the only dual carriage way(as seen in the above photo)is from Kuching to Serian and Serian all the way to Sibu is single carriage way.

Even thou tiring a trip by land sure giving me a valuable experience in knowing Sarawak(my own place)better. The culture, lifestyle and geographical. Each small town I passed introduce me to the different lifestyle and culture of local people of Sarawak and the town itself.

A few more photos that I snap during my trip to Sibu will be publish on my next post.

Daily Photo-Sarawak Museum.

Sarawak Museum

This Kuching landmark is the finest museum in Southeast Asia. For over a century, a succession of conscientious curators have collected and catalogued the single most extensive archive and exhibit of Bornean history, art and ethnography anywhere in the world.

As the most prominent repository of Bornean culture, the Sarawak Museum is also an active patron of wide-ranging academic research. The excavations at Niah Caves, which unearthed the oldest known evidence of human settlement in Borneo, were conducted under the auspices of the Sarawak Museum. A reconstruction of the prehistoric settlement at Niah Cave is on permanent display. Other notable exhibits include the history of Sarawak, a reconstruction of native longhouses, tribal art, Malay and Chinese artifacts, and local flora and fauna. Behind the Sarawak Museum there is an aquarium, and a picturesque landscaped garden.

Sarawak Museum

There is a curious story behind the design of the Museum. It was commissioned by the second White Rajah, Charles Brooke, and resembles a Normandy town house. The Rajah, however, distrusted architects. The Museum was eventually designed by the Rajah's butler - a native of Normandy!

Completed in 1891, the Museum was extended in 1911. But the number of exhibits continued to grow. Another extension, across the road from the original museum site and connected by a footbridge, was built in the 1970s.

Migrant Workers.

The movement of people from one place to another place is not new phenomenon. For centuries people have been on the move for one reason or another.demand for both skilled (see picture above)and unskilled workers has grown rapidly in Malaysia.Malaysia import so many foreign workers from neighboring countries and does not mean that we have not enough people to work. The problem doesn't lies on people,it lies with money.
Imagine how can you survive with few hundred ringgit monthly salary or Rm2.00 ringgit per hour with cost of leaving getting higher day by day.But not to migrant workers a few hundred or rm2.00 per hr. will see this is a good salary comparing to their home country and for most cases, accomnodation is provided which they will be able to work and save money for home.

The picture above show how skill is the migrant workers installing roof to high rise tower.
